"The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let dead things go" - Anon

It's over a week now since the start of September and day by day, autumn is revealing itself... remember we are still in late Summer but the signs of change are easy to see.
This quote is one of the most used autumnal quotes and it reflects the idea of letting go and embracing change in our lives. The shedding of the leaves symbolizes the natural cycle of life, essential for the growth and renewal.
Eight things to let go of this autumn
Letting go brings freedom, it creates space and it's a chance to welcome renewal into our lives and it can be applied to our physical lives or the mental baggage that we are carrying.
One thing I know for sure is that our busy lives mean that we accumulate more stuff than we need or we keep on ignoring the burden we are carrying. This is your time to give yourself a moment to pause and see what needs to fall away in order to make the load lighter or to make room for something new.
Here are eight things to consider letting go of this autumn:
- What is broken beyond repair?
- What no longer fits?
- What is tired? doing things.
- What never worked out?
- What no longer works?
- What doesn't bring joy?
- What doesn't nourish you?
- What doesn't inspire you?
Now, these eight questions can be applied to all areas of our lives, for example "what is broken beyond repair?" could apply to the stereo under the stairs or a friendship that broke down due to trust issues.
Practical Magic - a gentle practice for today.
Today, find some time to go through your home ask these questions about the things around you. Be brutally honest and start to let go of things... where possible donate what you no longer have use for and recycle as much as possible.
Using your journal or Notes App, apply the questions to your life... audit your relationships, work situation, habits, lifestyle etc and see what changes need to happen for you to live your best life. Maybe it's time to let go of that Friday night take away or maybe it's time to leave that toxic Whatsapp group that gives you anxiety.
Letting go is the process of releasing attachment to past events, emotions, or outcomes, creating space for emotional freedom, clarity, and personal growth. There is emotions attached to everything, tune in to how you feel and navigate the process with kindness. Start slow and small... get used to the feeling of letting things go.
